Through The Franklin County Office of Justice Policy & Programs (OJPP) SAFER (Stop Addiction for Everyone Resource) Station program was implemented. SAFER Station is a deflection program offering direct linkage and transport to substance use treatment, peer support, case management, and access to harm reduction education, naloxone, and fentanyl test strips for people who use drugs and are at risk for overdose in Franklin County. The SAFER multidisciplinary team works to redirect people who use drugs away from jails or emergency departments and toward community-based treatment. Using a non-judgmental approach rooted in addiction science, SAFER Station is the gateway to treatment services when an individual reaches the “Action” Stage of Change. Monday-Thursday operations are dedicated to addiction and recovery needs, prioritizing individuals coming in to be screened and linked to treatment or in need of Naloxone and Fentanyl Test Strips. We open our doors to the community on Friday for individuals seeking identification assistance and help with applying for Jobs and Family Services benefits. With a scheduled appointment, we will assist participants with case management needs and resources. Throughout the week, SAFER Station team members will conduct outreach at various locations in the community.
